The 2006
Review
On Saturday
2nd December, Wickers Gymnastics Club held its annual club championships
to which all 300 members of the club are invited to participate in!
The championships
took place at the Clubs main facility at Kings Manor Community College,
Shoreham, but members from its satellite clubs at Boundstone Community
College and Whytemead School also take part.
Gymnasts from as young
as 3 years old participated on the day! The day was split into 2 halves,
with the morning round for gymnasts training 1 hour and 1 ½ hrs
per week performing a short floor routine and a vault, and the afternoon
session was for gymnasts who train for 2, 4 and 8 hours per week. These
gymnasts performed a combination of tumbles, a beam routine and a vault.
The day was very exciting
and over 120 children participated! Gymnasts had been training hard
for several months for the competition to perfect their routines and
took delight in showing off in front of almost 250 spectators made up
of family and friends!
For some gymnasts
this was the first time they had performed in front of so many people,
and their nerves stood up to the occasion!
Squad members also
took the opportunity to show off some of their skills to younger club
members and tumbled to wow the audience.
The championship medals
and club annual awards were presented by Simon Osborne, a radio DJ from
Splash FM, Worthing, who was very impressed with the level of gymnastics
the children displayed! All gymnasts received a Certificate and a water
bottle for taking part.
This is also the annual
fundraiser for the club in order that new equipment can be purchased
for gymnasts at all 3 sites. Gymnastics equipment is very expensive
and as a non profit making organisation the club championships are very
important to help raise much needed monies for this and also to pay
for continuing coach education.
Medal winners were:
3 - 4 years - Anna Dornbusch, Lily Obermayer, Maya Monis, Aleigha Busahra,
Henry Davies, William Davies

Also many thanks to
everyone who supported the day - we were successful in raising over
£1000 which has been added to our fund raising pot and we are
able to buy some new equipment for all three sites - vault run up carpet
for Boundstone and Whytmead Schools, and a free standing set of bars
and mini coaching block for the Kings Manor Site.
We have also been
able to fund 4 coaches on a management training course, Emma, Carleen
Hayley and Claire and also Hayley, Claire and Carleen will be attending
their next level of coaching course later in the year.
Fundraising events
such as the club championships are so important to the club to enable
us to further the club and coaches development, so many thanks to everyone.
